Creating history, Captain Geetika Koul, a member of the Snow Leopard Brigade, has become the first woman medical officer of the Indian Army to be deployed at Siachen, the world's highest battlefield. This significant achievement follows Captain Koul's successful completion of rigorous induction training at the prestigious Siachen Battle School, where she underwent tests of physical and mental endurance, covering aspects such as high-altitude acclimatization, survival techniques, and specialized medical procedures crucial for operating in the harsh conditions of Siachen.
The Snow Leopard Brigade, in a social media post, proudly announced Captain Geetika Koul's deployment, highlighting her groundbreaking role. Siachen, located in the northern part of the Himalayas, is renowned for its strategic importance, as well as its extreme climate and challenging terrain. Captain Koul's deployment as the first woman medical officer to this demanding battlefield marks a significant stride in promoting gender inclusion within the Indian Army.
In October, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) further enhanced communication facilities for soldiers at Siachen by commissioning a new base transceiver station (BTS). This initiative, in collaboration with Siachen Warriors, aims to extend mobile communication services to troops deployed at altitudes exceeding 15,500 feet, enabling them to connect with their families while serving in one of the world's coldest and highest battlefields.
