
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid tribute to the 15 martyrs killed on 13 December 1788 for participating in Pintos revolt 1787 at the Martyr’s memorial Salvador de Souza Garden, Panjim. Sawant stated that the valiant uprising of the Pinto’s against the oppressive Portuguese regime in Goa will always be honoured & will continue to inspire generations to come. To keep the memory of the brave martyrs such as the Dessais, the Pinto’s and Dipaji Rane who revolted against the Portuguese, a book will be released on December 19
Pinto’s revolt was a rebellion against Portuguese rule in Goa in 1787. The leaders of the plot were three prominent priests from the village of Candolim. They belonged to the Pinto clan, hence the name of the rebellion. this was the first revolt against the Portuguese done by priests.
