Dattajirao Gaekwad, India's longest-living Test cricketer, breathed his last on Tuesday, February 13, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket. Gaekwad passed away at his residence in Baroda, aged 95.

The former India cricketer represented the country in 11 Test matches over a career spanning almost nine years. Primarily a batter, Gaekwad could also bowl medium pace and leg spin, contributing with both bat and ball during his playing days. He amassed 350 runs across 20 innings for the Indian team, including a notable half-century.

While Gaekwad's international career was modest, he made significant contributions at the domestic level. Playing primarily for Baroda, he featured in 110 first-class games, amassing 5788 runs at an average of 36.40. His impressive tally included 17 centuries and 23 half-centuries, along with 25 wickets.

Former India all rounder Irfan Pathan shared the news of Gaekwad's passing on social media, paying a heartfelt tribute to the stalwart. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) also expressed its profound grief at the loss, highlighting Gaekwad's leadership during India's tour of England in 1959 and Baroda's Ranji Trophy triumph in 1957-58.

Gaekwad's legacy as a cricketer and leader will be remembered fondly by the cricketing community, as India bids farewell to one of its cricketing stalwarts.
