Laximan Nilkanth Wagle, a resident of Aquem-Margao has cultivated a 49-inch Drumstick in a small plastic drum filled with soil at his home, breaking the record for longest drumsticks grown. Laximan who grows all kinds of vegetables in his garden, grew these drumsticks without using the traditional growing methods.
Laximan's friend had given him the drumstick saplings to grow, but he did so in a drum rather than on the ground. The drumsticks took five months to grow after a year. It started to grow so quickly that the drumstick's tip touched the ground. Laximan chopped the drumstick, which had nearly grown to 49 inches long, out of concern that it would spoil after it touched the ground.
“My son was adamant about getting the Book of Records to make a record by recommending this unusual fruit. Nevil Alphonso, the director of the Directorate of Agriculture, told me that he would dispatch three officials to do the check. After inspecting the facility, the officers looked over the drumsticks. They measured it, and as a confirmation, they gave me a certificate. The certificate was mailed to the head of the Book of Records. My measurement was 49 inches, while the previous record was 46 inches. I still regret cutting the drumstick as it would have grown more long,” says Laximan Wagle
