Sworn in as the first Prime Minister of India on August 15, 1947, a man of distinction and class, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru is fondly remembered today on his 58th Death Anniversary. To quote the great man, “Time is not measured by the passing of years but by what one does, what one feels, and what one achieves.”

Adored by all, at an early age, Chacha Nehru had a keen interest in politics. As a student, he would learn about countries that struggled with oppression and fought for their freedom. This drew him into being a part of India's freedom movement. It is said that he was the architect of modern India and paved the paths of numerous institutions that today work toward India's development and security.

In 1963, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru suffered a minor stroke, and in January 1964, he had a grave attack. He died of a third and fatal stroke a few months later, on May 27, 1964.

The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee paid tributes to the former Prime Minister on his death anniversary on Friday at Congress house Panaji. GPCC president Amit Patkar pointed out that as the Indian Prime Minister Nehru played an important role in Goa’s liberation. He added that as an architect of modern India Nehru is to be credited for the country’s achievements in terms of industrialization.
