Should Goans oppose the illegal techno parties that are being held around Independence Day?

PANJIM: Going into the Independence weekend, a mind boggling over 23 trance parties have been advertised on social media. The parties range from Anjuna to Arambol and have started from Tuesday and will continue till August 18. Despite court orders, EDM organizers are using the Independence Day holiday to flout laws and cause noise pollution which will cause problems to the residents from Anjuna to Arambol. In this edition of Street Voices, Herald TV spoke to various people on whether Goans should be opposing the illegal techno parties that will be held before and after Independence Day.

It is become a way of life for this government to allow illegal parties. Citizens have always been opposing these because it is a nuisance and a great danger to the health of senior citizens and infants. This government seems to be happy in selling the health and the peace of its citizens. The tourists once visited the state thinking that it was ‘Heaven on Earth’. Today the same tourists are saying ‘We are seeing a glimpse of Hell on Earth’. The people who have been elected to govern are harassing law abiding citizens of their rightful demands, for their rightful services. These same people are helping, assisting, law breakers due to their own ulterior motives and interests.

Hearing that such techno parties are happening in Goa is regrettable. We celebrate 15th August with great joy. Many soldiers sacrificed their lives to give us Independence. Many freedom fighters and citizens sacrificed their lives. I’m asking the government and the authorities which give permission, ‘Are techno parties part of our culture?’ The techno parties are festival of alcohol and drugs. I protest against such kind of parties and appeal to the Chief Minister to stop such parties, since these are not our festivals this is not our culture.

We are celebrating the 77th Anniversary of India’s Independence. It is a day of great celebration and we have to celebrate because we got Independence. There are many feasts and festivals which we celebrate in different ways. Our celebrations have to follow certain restrictions, especially at night. These beach parties where loud music is played and liquor if flowing cause tremendous disturbance to the people. At least on 15th August we should take care and not trouble others. We should not disturb people. You can have parties but don’t play loud music and disturb others. Respect our Independence Day. I wish everyone a Happy Independence Day.
