An Easter treat for tiatr lovers

Prince Jacob’s tiatr ‘Kazar.com’ is an amalgam of family and comedy. It highlights the issues that marriages of today face. Other than his regular troupe members, the director has roped in Goa’s singing sensation in Dubai, Lourdes, who will be singing and acting on stage.

Roseferns’ 91th production, ‘Podvedar’, is a fight between good and bad. It focuses on a proud man who enjoys living a life full of pride. “His son follows in his footsteps, but an incident brings in a drastic change. And that change in the life of the son helps the proud father to acknowledge his folly,” informs the director.        

Comedian Agostinho’s non-stop drama ‘Mog, Kazar, Divorce’ is all about love, romance and marriage. “But marriage is a sacrament and not a license for divorce,” states the director. “Divorce cases are on the rise in Goa, thus destroying the fabric of the society,” he reveals. As his earlier non-stop dramas were well accepted by the audience, the director decided to stick to the non-stop productions and intends to continue with it in the near future.    

Saby de Divar’s tiatr ‘Goyem Konnachem?’ will focus on Goa, politicians and migrants. “With the influx of non-Goans, Goans are fighting for their rights. The migrants have all the facilities and benefits, while the sons of the soil are struggling for survival in their homeland,” he says.

“Why should Goa be ruled only by the politicians? What action are we taking to control the influx of non-Goans?,” he inquires, adding, “During elections, some Goans become victims of greed, resulting in dire consequences. We think Goa is finished, but the little that’s left, let us save it.”

The cast in Saby de Divar’s troupe includes Ani Pednekar in a minister’s role, followed by Ofelia as his wife, who is illiterate but enjoys a comfortable position in society through influence of her corrupt husband. In the comic acts, Mathew and Aveena along with Caetano ani Agnel will entertain the crowd.

Mario Menezes’ tiatr ‘Don Roste’ is a family melodrama revolving around a widow and her two sons. Both the sons take two different roads in life, but one enjoys goodness and the other encounters bitterness. Other than the old cast, the director has roped in comedian Jesus along with Joana for some comedy. Rioma is back in the troupe, while Lawry, Rosy, Melisha, Rioma, Joana, Jesus, Mario will entertain with songs.

Comedian Sally’s tiatr ‘Tumi Konnak Zai?’ is again a family melodrama, revolving around parents and children. “It is a completely different story,” informs the director. “The audience needs to come and watch it,” he adds. His new cast includes Fiola, Wilma, Crostina, Pierson, Jr Reagan, besides comedienne Gleny.

Comedian John D’Silva’s tiatr ‘Porzoll’ focuses on the girl child. “It is about how many families yearn for a boy and neglect the girl child,” informs the director. “The value of a girl child and her importance in the family has been highlighted in the drama,” he adds. The new members in John’s troupe include Agusto de Calangute, besides comedian Dudush.com.

Ives Tavares’s tiatr ‘Fott Uloinaka, Sot Uloi’ is based on the terrorist outfit ISIS. “A Catholic girl falls in love with the ISIS fighter,” the director reveals, “and how the conversion comes about has been highlighted in the drama.” The cast includes Hindi film actor Shantaram Pawar, stunt man of the Konkani stage Santan Pegado, Myra D’Costa, besides Elvis Mascarenhas, Cielda, Edward, Neves, Nazario Pinto, Edward and Milagres de Ganapoga in the singing category.

Menino de Bandar’s tiatr ‘Paichem Tem Bhurgeanchem’ is a family drama, with prime focus on the head of the family. “Quite often, the woman suffers at the hands of man, but how long will that continue?” inquires the director. Besides comedian Humbert, the director’s daughter, Jayanti, has been roped in. His old drama ‘Senior Citizen’ will also continue simultaneously from April 1, whereas his new release will be performed from mid-April.

Menino Mario’s tiatr ‘Mogacho Ghontter’, scheduled mid-April, will focus on the youth going astray. “The youth wish to enjoy modern life,” the director says, “but they also need to be kept on check as they could lose their way and get addicted to alcoholand drugs.”

Elvis/Carmin’s new release ‘Mennache Paktte’ also focuses on youth. “We say that our youth are the future of the nation, but how secured is the future of our youth?” Elvis inquires. “The new tiatr is also an initiative to draw the youth rather the elderly towards tiatr,” he adds. The new entrants in this drama include teen Newita Albuquerque and Francis.

Dominic Carvalho’s tiatr ‘Amchea Panvlank Uzvadd’ focuses on family and harassment that follows among the family members. This tiatr is scheduled for April 8. Kissan de Chinchinim’s tiatr ‘To Mhojea Mogacho India’ carries a patriotic theme and Goan flavour. “It is a traditional tiatr,” mentions the director, “with depiction of Goa and Kashmir.”

Leonara D’Costa from Sanvordem, who was popular acting in traditional ‘zomnivhele khell’, will be releasing her first tiatr ‘Zomnichi Dhull’ mid-April. It carries a story of an adopted son and the mistreatment in the family. “After all the humiliation,” informs the director, “it is the same adopted son who comes to the rescue of others.” 

Other releases during the Easter season include Francis de Tuem’s tiatr ‘Konnak Patiepachem?’ and Sharon Mazarello’s tiatr ‘Tukai Tench Assa’.

The latter focuses on three families housing the elderly (all senior citizens) and how they are forced to cope up with the generation next. The cast includes Platilda, Jessie, Josephine, Sabina, Fatima, Cyriaco, Marcelin de Betim, C D’Silva and others.
