When children purposely lose their way

Apurbaiechim Fulam’, a tiatr which was penned and directed by Lawry Travasso and staged across Goa during the season of Lent, has been reproduced in DVD format by Cat Video.

The story revolves around Manu (Ulhas Tari), his wife Rosy (Rosy Alvares) and his family members. Although Manu and Rosy are devout Catholics, their only son (Franky Gonsalves) and his wife (Antonette de Maina) show disbelief towards Mother Mary and refuse to carry forward the age-old tradition of accepting the statue of Blessed Mary in their house.

Influenced by the pastor (Filipe Almeida), the young couple decides to get rid of the aging parents. On the pretext of painting the house, Manu and Rosy are informed that a flat has been arranged for their brief stay.

But where do Manu and Rosy ultimately end up? Will they ever return to their son and ancestral house? Are Manu and Rosy content with their new arrangement? What is the fate of the pastor and those influenced by him?

‘Apurbaiechim Fulam’ has all the scenes from the tiatr presented earlier on stage. Instead of taking shots directly from the scenes of the tiatr, it would have been more appealing if natural locations were focused upon, resulting in better visuals for the viewer.

All the artistes have enacted their respective roles to perfection. The comic interludes by comedian Agostinho, John D’Silva, Janet, Richard and Brian are entertaining till the end. Besides the main plot, comedy and cantos, the DVD carries merely one opening song by Lawry Travasso. If more songs were introduced in between the scenes, it would have added more flavour and colour.   

Cinematography by Jowin Fernandes, with special effects of the spotlight, deserve appreciation as there is quality and clarity in every scene and the entire production is worth its price.
