PANJIM: Despite concerns over completion of infrastructure for holding the event, all 12 Portuguese-speaking countries have agreed to take part in the 3rd Lusofonia Games in November, here.
Portugal will field 200 athletes to participate in the nine disciplines. They are expected to be the show stealers at the athletic event, while its football team is going to start as favourites. Earlier, there was a doubt whether Portugal would send a wushu team but now it is confirmed that a 14-member squad has been shortlisted to debut at the games, sources said.
Also, 200 athletes from India would be participating.
Angola, which was hesitant to take part because of lack of infrastructure, has now agreed to send a 129-member contingent including its best football team. Except volleyball, Angola will participate in all other disciplines.
The football event will be the biggest attraction at the Lusofonia Games with nine countries confirming their participation, sources said.
Guinea-Bissau and Sri Lanka will make their debut in volleyball.
A total of 315 sportspersons will take part in athletics.
It is the only discipline that has attracted participation from all 12 participating countries.
The nine disciplines at the event include athletics, basketball, beach volleyball, football, judo, taekwondo, table tennis and wushu.
The participating countries are - Portugal, India (Goa), Angola, Sri Lanka, Macau, Guinea-Bissau, Cape Verde, Mozambique, Sao Tome, Principe, East Timor and Equatorial Guinea.
