ABC Sports Club Arambol Clinch 46th Cana Benaulim Soccer Title in Thrilling 8-7 Tie-Breaker Win

RAIA: In a pulsating final of the 46th Cana Benaulim Soccer Championship played at the panchayat ground, recently, ABC Sports Club, Arambol, held their nerves to outgun Sao Jose de Areal Sports Club 8-7 in a dramatic tie-breaker, after both sides were locked 1-1 at full time.

With a huge Sunday crowd cheering and pleasant weather setting the perfect stage, both teams showcased attacking intent and defensive discipline in a goalless first half.

The deadlock was broken early in the second half when Alvito Moura struck in the 33rd minute for Sao Jose de Areal SC, sending their supporters into raptures. However, ABC Sports Club showed grit and resilience, constantly testing Sao Jose de Areal goalkeeper Aggie Antao, who was later named best goalkeeper of the final. The equaliser came in the 44th minute, when Pranesh fired a thunderbolt from outside the box to level the scores.

As full-time ended 1-1, the clash moved to a gripping tie-breaker where ABC Sports Club triumphed 8-7 to lift the coveted title and a cash prize of Rs 60,000. Trophies and individual awards were presented by chief guest Dronacharya Awardee Armando Colaco, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, Goa Football Association Caitano Fernandes, GFA Vice-President Antonio Pango, GFA Executive Committee members, club members and other dignitaries.

A token of appreciation was presented to Cana Benaulim Village Panchayat Manoj Kesarkar, which was presented by Armando Colaco. Earlier, Royla Fernandes welcomed the guests.
