BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has firmly denied any ongoing retirement plans for senior cricketers Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, stating that the two are still very much a part of India’s ODI setup. His comments come amid swirling rumours suggesting the duo could be nearing the end of their international careers, particularly after stepping away from Tests and T20Is.
During a media interaction, Shukla was asked whether Kohli and Rohit would receive grand farewells akin to Sachin Tendulkar’s. In response, he said,
“Where have they retired? Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are still playing one-day cricket. Why are we already discussing farewells?”
He added that the BCCI has a clear policy of not interfering with players’ retirement decisions, emphasizing that such calls are left entirely to the individuals.
“Kohli is fit, Rohit is performing well. There's no need to rush into farewell talk.”
Reports earlier this month hinted that the Australia tour in October 2025 might be the final international assignment for both players. However, sources have since clarified that the BCCI is not pressuring them and is waiting for the players to make their own choices.
Meanwhile, Kohli has reportedly resumed training, spending two hours in the indoor nets at Lord’s as he prepares for his return to international cricket.
