Amruta stuns Bhakti, Ivana in joint second position

PANJIM: In a major upset, Goa’s WGM Bhakti Kulkarni lost to Amruta Mokal (2070) of Maharashtra in the fourth round of 41st National Women Challenger chess championship, at Peddem sports complex, Mapusa, on Tuesday.

WGM Soumya Swaminathan (2352) of PSPB maintained her lead along with  IM Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi (2314) of Air India, IM Nisha Mohata (2248) of PSPB, WGM Swati Ghate (2234) of LIC and Amruta Mokal ( 2070) of Maharashtra  with the score of four points out of four rounds.
WGM Soumya Swaminathan (2352) of PSPB while playing on the top board  with white pieces defeated WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty (2231) of LIC while IM Subbaraman Vijayalakshmi   beat Lakshmi Pranitha of Andhra Pradesh, Harini S lost to IM Nisha Mohata and WGM Swati Ghate  defeated Sunyasakta Satpathy (1828) of Odisha.
WGM Padmini Raut of Odisha, WIM Ivana Furtado (2187) of Goa, WFM GK Monisha (2078) of Tamil Nadu, WFM Mahalakshmi of PSPB and Varshini R (1987) of Tamil Nadu are in joint second position with the score of 3.5 points each.
Padmini Raut defeated Sheena E (1825) of Kerala, WIM Ivana Furtado outplayed Pratusha Bodda (2033) of AP, WFM GK Monisha beat Harshini A of Tamil Nadu, WFM Mahalakshmi defeated Hilmi Parveen of Kerala while Varshini R drew with Nimmy George of Kerala.
Bhakti is now in the third position with the score of three points along with WGM Kiran Manisha Mohanty (2231) of LIC, WGM Aarthie Ramaswamy (2096) of Air India, Nimmy George of Kerala, Bala Kanamma (1984), Divya Lakshmi, Harini S of Tamil Nadu, Sunyasakta Satapathy of Odisha, Sandhya, Hinduja Reddy, Matta Teja Sahithi, Harshita Guddanthi, Toshali V of Andhra Pradesh,  Nandhini Saripalli, WFM Riya Savant, Aishwarya Thorat, Sakshi Naik Gaonkar of Goa, WFM Bindhu Sarita of LIC, Mili Ghosh of West Bengal, Dhanashree Pandit, Samiksha Patil of Maharashtra, WFM Tarini Goyal of Chadigarh and Neha Singh of Kerala.
