MAPUSA: Assonora United booked their place in the semi-finals of the 3rd Rosary Cup Mandrem Soccer Tournament 2025, with a 3-1 victory over Nerul SC, in the first quarter-final, organised by Dunes Sports Club and played at the Mandrem village panchayat ground.
Nerul SC took an early lead in the 18th minute through Yeshwant More, who scored a brilliant free-kick and was later awarded the first goal scorer prize.
Assonora United missed an early opportunity to equalise when a 17th-minute penalty was saved by Nerul goalkeeper Gajendra Korgoakar. The score at half-time remained 1-0 in favour of Nerul.
In the second half, Assonora levelled in the 48th minute through Parab. Just two minutes later, substitute Projot Arabekar found the net to give Assonora a 2-1 lead.
The match was sealed in the 60th minute when Kunal Salgaonkar scored Assonora's third goal. Salgaonkar was named man-of-the-match, with the award presented by Vivek Naik, a player from Dunes Sports Club.
