RAIA: Betalbatim Sports Club edged out Maina Sports Club 4-2 in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after a 1-1 stalemate in the regulation time in the semi-final to move into final of Benaulim Villagers Cup football tournament played at St John the Baptist ground, Betalbatim, on Thursday.

On a picture-perfect day for football, both sides delivered a high-octane contest filled with grit, flair and near-misses.

Maina SC struck first blood in the 11th minute when Joywin Carneiro soared above the defence to nod home a thunderous header from a corner. But the lead was short-lived. Betalbatim SC hit back two minutes later through Keith Rodrigues, who capitalised on a defensive lapse and coolly lobbed the ball over the stranded rival goalkeeper.

The second half saw end-to-end action, with Afilio Fernandes having a goal ruled out for offside. Clifford Miranda and Dickson Rogtao impressed for Betalbatim SC, while Joywin and Nikson Castanha stood out for Maina SC. And Alison Rogtao stood out in defence for Betalbatim SC.

In the tie-breaker, Betalbatim SC held their nerve as their goalkeeper made two crucial saves, sealing a memorable win and a place in the final.
