PILAR: Bhagyajyoti Naik secured the first place, with Sangel coming second in the 40m distance girls recurve bow with sight category of Independence Day Archery Competition 2025 organised by Zito Archery Club at the Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar, recently.

In the 40m distance girls Indian bow category, Laximi Kerkar won the first place. In the 30m distance girls recurve bow with sight category, Marsha Naik won the first place, Sniti Gaonkar second and Naisha Sanil third.

In the 20m distance boys recurve bow with sight category, David Fernandes won the first place, Dion Fernandes second and Joshua Pereira third. In the 20m distance girls recurve bow with sight category, Arusha Aglave won the first place, followed by Ananya Naik in the second place and Swara Narvekar in third.

In the 10m distance boys recurve bare bow category, Elvin George secured the first place. In the girls category, Arika Vasta won the first place. In the 15m distance girls recurve bare bow category, Samiksha Saharan secured the first place.

A total of 32 archers participated across various categories. Awards and cash prizes were presented by Fr Jacob Shally, principal of Fr Agnel Central School, Pilar; Fransquinha Oliveira, member secretary of DFDC as the chief guests and Usha Narvekar, Deepak Narvekar and Celinda Serrao as the guests of honour.

A cash prize of Rs 5,000 was awarded to the first-place winners of the recurve bow with sight categories. The event was compered by Larisa Fernandes. The competition was sponsored by Donald Fernandes, Johnson Dias, Usha Narvekar, Praveen George, Jowlex and Jesban Da Costa and supported by the Street Providence in search of the first Olympic medal in archery.
