PANJIM: The Kings School, Goa, put up a doughty performance against Krira Shikkha Protisthan, Bangladesh and suffered a 3 -0 defeat in its second match in the 63rd Subroto Cup international football tournament, being played in Delhi.
The coach Christian Roldan commended his team for the quality of football played by the girls.
After the game, Roldan said, “I think we had the opportunity to play against a team of a much higher level compared to our local leagues, so I am satisfied with the learning opportunity we had. Of course if I base it only on the result I can't be satisfied, but the team has been able to compete against a great team, we have worked on new aspects, we have adapted to new scenarios... for all this and for the effort of my players, I have no reproach or reason to complain.”
Asked what improvements he would like to see in the team, he said, in both games, the girls performed below their level in the offensive phase and were not feeling comfortable controlling the ball and creating space. These are areas he would focus on improving.
When asked what were his plans in the match against Dhirubhai Ambani International School, he said the chances in the standings depend on the results of the other matches, but points aside, their goal remains the same as they have set throughout the championship: to be competitive in every match, to grow as a team and to try to add victories to our experience.
Kings School chairman Melvin Pereira said, “Today was a tough opponent: Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishtan (BKSP) is an autonomous, residential educational institution and the national sports institute of Bangladesh. Our young rookie TKS team played our first ever international football match and they proved themselves brave as they played against Subroto regular contenders, BKSP, Bangladesh who triumphed with a 3-0 victory. Respect to this team, who were earlier Subroto winners too! Our girls played a great game and poured out their passion until the very end! “
On Tuesday, the BKSP in Group B of the Subroto Cup defeated Dhirubhai Ambani International School, Mumbai with a 23-0 win. He added that it was a fantastic learning experience and privilege for the team and us all playing against such strong opponents representing Bangladesh.
