RAIA: CAC Cansaulim pipped Margao Sports Club 1-0 in a thrilling encounter to secure their place in the quarter-finals of 27th Holy Cross Inter-Village Football Tournament, played at Kakoda ground, on Friday.
The match saw both teams showcasing intense energy and sharp game play from the very first whistle. Margao SC looked dangerous in the early stages, putting pressure on the CAC Cansaulim defence and creating several scoring opportunities. However, their forwards were unable to convert chances into goals, missing narrowly on more than one occasion.
The breakthrough came in the 26th minute when CAC Cansaulim earned a free-kick from 30 yards. Midfielder Jesus D’Sa stepped up and curled in a spectacular shot into the top corner, leaving the Margao SC goalkeeper helpless and giving CAC Cansaulim a 1-0 lead going into halftime.
The second half was a fiercely contested affair, with Margao SC coming out with renewed aggression, pushing hard for an equaliser but in vain.
