MAPUSA: Calangute Association Sports Club proved to be too good as they downed Cortalim Villagers 3-0 in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Tuesday.
Calangute Association SC went into the breather with a goal cushion from the booths of Sidharth Kundaikar.
The beachside lads under the leadership of coach Anthony D’Souza sent their supporters into ruptures when striker Arun Naik in the 12th minute sent a square pass to well positioned Sidharth inside the 18-yard box, whose curling right footer crashed into the far corner of the goal, 1-0.
Just three minutes later, Sidharth almost doubled his lead but his thundering 25-yard free-kick came off the far goal post.
At the other end in a counter attack, Calangute Association’s custodian Aditya Sharma thwarted Cortalim Villagers striker Jaison Vaz in one to one situation.
As the match progressed, Calangute Association’s skipper Mehbub Hublikar saw his 30-yard shot being saved by Cortalim Villagers’ goalkeeper Fervino Fernandes.
Calangute Association carried on their onslaught on crossing ends. In the very second minute, striker Calangute Association’s Shavez Pathan moved dangerously towards the goal but saw his stiff grounder miss the target narrowly.
However, in the 53rd minute, Calangute Association’s Arun Naik brilliantly flicked the ball past the onrushing Cortalim Villagers custodian after receiving a long ball from his goalkeeper, 2-0.
Cortalim Villagers had another chance to reduce the margin but Calangute Association’s custodian Aditya Sharma brought a smart save to deny Airen Fernandes scoring from a free-kick.
While Cortalim Villagers failed to score at the other end, Calangute Association netted their third goal from an intelligent header from Joywin Carneiro, which hit the far top corner of the goal before entering the goal, 3-0.
In the 89th minute, another glorious chance went abegging for Cortalim Villagers with Calangute Association’s custodian Aditya bringing a point blank save from skipper Jaison.
