MAPUSA/RAIA: Calangute Association sports club registered a well deserved 3-0 win over Guardian Angel SC in the Goa Professional League held at Duler stadium, here, on Wednesday.
All the goals came in the second session of play.
Both the teams though played attacking soccer yet failed to have one single threatening shot at each other’s goal, in the first 30 minutes of play. Finally a deep cross by Calangute's Jovito Fernandes saw a tap by striker Dangmei Gaipulan zoomed just over Angel's cross bar.
Just four minutes into the second session and Beachside lads almost scored. Jovito Fernandes left footer from inside the 18-yard box was blocked by Angel's custodian Pratheesh Veettil and the ball rolled to substitute Richard Cardozo whose strike hit Angel's defender for a corner.
At the other end Angel's Moises D’Sa set up Clifton Rebello inside the penalty box but the latter missed to connect from close.
After almost 30 minutes of midfield tussle Calangute Association forged ahead in the 85th minute where Richard Cardozo found his teammate Pandurang Gauns unmarked who controlled and latched a left footer into the back of the nylons, 1-0
In the added time Calangute Association pumped in two more goals with Pratesh Shirodkar guiding Pandurang Gauns cross into the goal, while Aman Govekar controlled Richard Cardozo pass and placed the ball past Angel's goalkeeper, 3-0.
Calangute's Melvin Lobo received the man-of-the-match award from the hands of Uday Lingudkar, GFA’s executive committee member.
At Nagoa panchayat ground, Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Geno FC, 3-0, to collect full points. Vidipt Dua gave lead to Sporting Clube de Goa in the 20th minute of the match. Doyal Alves doubled the lead for Sporting netting two goals in the 78th and 82nd minute.
Doyal Alves of Sporting Club de Goa was declared man-of-the-match.
