RAIA: Calangute Association stormed into the semi-finals of the 52nd Custodio memorial football tournament defeating Sao Jose de Areal 3-2 organised by Raia Sporting Association at the Raia panchayat ground, on Monday.
Sao Jose de Areal Mohammad Mansori’s long-ranger failed to pop up into Calangute Association net in the 4th minute, while Sahil Shaikh of Calangute Association shot missed the target by whiskers in the 6th minute. It was Sao Jose de Areal who netted the first goal of the match through Stalen Oliveira’s diagonally shot in the 10th minute.
Then Richard Cardoso of Calangute Association shot was saved from above the goal-line of Sao Jose de Areal by Bersel Viegas in the 24th minute. Ashnoy Gomes scored the second goal for Sao Jose de Areal in the 29th minute to remain 2-0 at the breather.
Calangute Association enter the field in second session and change the tempo of the game and fired two quick goals through Ashwyn D’Souza in the 42nd minute and equaliser goal by Fasel D’Souza in the 46th minute
In the last minute of the game, Calangute Association Domnic Fernandes’ 30-yard shot crush into the net to seal the fate of Sao Jose de Areal.
