RAIA: Calangute Veterans secured a dominant 3-0 victory over the Benaulim Veterans, claiming the title of the All Goa 8-a-Side Veterans Tournament, organised by the UK Goans Dynamic Group, at the Dando ground, Benaulim.
The match began with an early setback for Benaulim when their star forward, Pele Fernandes, sustained an injury and was forced off the field in the 2nd minute. Despite this blow, Benaulim rallied and attempted to reorganise, but Calangute quickly asserted dominance.
In the 10th minute, midfielder Markus capitalised on a well-executed corner to score a brilliant header, putting Calangute in the lead. The first half ended with Calangute holding a narrow 1-0 advantage.
The second half saw Benaulim pressing hard for an equaliser, showing grit and determination. However, Calangute's sharp counter-attacks proved decisive. In the 40th minute, Seby extended the lead with a well-taken goal. Just five minutes later, Agustin sealed the victory with a clinical finish, cementing Calangute's triumph.
Chief guests, Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardessai, MLA Carlos Ferreira and social activist Anthony Silva presented the trophies.
