RAIA: Canacona Sports and Cultural Club blanked Curtorim Gymkhana 2-0 to march into the quarter-finals of 7th Martin’s Cup organised by Betalbatim Sports Club at panchayat ground, Betalbatim, on Wednesday.
It was contest of supremacy, and from the word go, both teams played attacking brand of soccer and try to penetrate in each other’s defence and were eager to get the name on score sheet.
The wait was over in the 15th minute of play when Canacona SCC scored their first goal through Velvino Fernandes to take lead.
Curtorim Gymkhana were eager to find an equaliser but Joywin Carneiro’s shoot from the close range sail over the crossbar before the half time and scored board remained 1-0 in favour of Canacona SCC.
As match entered the second session, Curtorim Gymkhana’s Nickson Castanah gave through pass to Milagres Fernandes in the 35th minute of play but he couldn’t capitalised on the opportunity and Canacona SCC defence cleared the ball for a corner.
As the match progressed in the last quarter of the match, Trence gave a long pass to Allric, who ran down to beat the defence and goalkeeper Johnson Bagot and placed the ball in open net to make it, 2-0.
In the last minutes of the game, again Curtorim Gymkhana got the opportunity as long ranger shoot was well collected by Joywin Carneiro but failed to place in the net.
Earl Fernandes, goalkeeper of Canacona SCC was awarded the man-of-the-match by Joe Cota.
