RAIA: Cavelossim Veterans held their nerve in a dramatic tie-breaker to overcome Jose Cookies Veterans 6-4 after a gripping 2-2 stalemate in regulation time, storming into the semi-finals of the 23rd all-Goa veterans football tournament, organised by Flame of Unity Sports Club at Per Seraulim on Wednesday.
Thomas Fernandes gave Cavelossim an early lead, but Jerson Cardozo struck twice to put Jose Cookies ahead. Ronny Rodrigues capitalised on a goalkeeper’s error to restore parity just before the break. Despite Jose Cookies dominating possession in the second half, Cavelossim’s defence, led by skipper Raju Cardozo and keeper Anil Fernandes, stood firm.
In the penalty shootout, Raju, Charles, Thomas and Francisco converted for Cavelossim, while only Claude and Sukhdev found the net for Jose Cookies, sealing a 6-4 win for the Cavelossim side.
