RAIA: The CES College of Arts and Commerce, Cuncolim, edged past Government College Sanquelim 2-1 in the final to clinch the 2nd Inter-College Football Tournament Cup played at the DSYA ground, Ambelim, recently.
The tournament organised by the Department of Physical Education and Sports in collaboration with the Students’ Council of CES College, witnessed enthusiastic participation. Large spectators turned up to witness the grand finale. Both teams displayed discipline, passing accuracy and shooting power, keeping the crowd engaged.
The first breakthrough came in the 15th minute when Zaid Khan of Government College Sanquelim netted a powerful strike to put his team ahead.
CES College soon regrouped and in the 30th minute, Praveen Khole equalised with a long-range effort, making it 1-1.
Earlier, Johiol Yatttanli’s attempt for CES College was denied by the Government College Sanquelim goalpost. The decisive moment arrived in the 52nd minute, when Saiesh Gaonkar of CES College produced a clever move to slot home the winner, sealing a 2-1 victory.
Both teams fought hard in the second half, but solid defending on either side denied further goals.
Chief guest Bibiano Fernandes, India U-17 football coach, gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up. He was joined by dignitaries including Prakash Dessai (secretary, CES Institutions), Shailesh Vaidya (CES member), Parvath Naik (physical director), Nikhil Dessai (instructor), Parshuram Salwadi (India U-17 goalkeeper coach), Shrikant Dessai, Akash Dessai and other dignitaries.
