RAIA: Chandor Club made to the semi-finals of 50th Chandor Seamen football tournament organised by Chandor Club at Chandor Church Complex ground, defeating Cuncolim Union 6-5 via penalty shoot-out, on Friday.

The game started with both teams displaying a sense of urgency, hundreds of spectators watched the match.

The fast paced Cuncolim Union brought pressure on the Chandor Club keeping up the ball in the rival territory for better part of the first half.

Both sides tried hard for a breakthrough but went into the lemon break with a goalless draw.

Changing sides, Chandor Club drew the first blood through Moises D’Sa who received a brilliant pass from Mario, dribbled past the Cuncolim Union defence and shot powerfully into the net. The Chandor Club joy was short-lived when Cuncolim Union’s Wilson Fernandes capitalised on a dangerous lapse of Chandor Club defence and placed the ball neatly on the left corner keeping the Chandor Club custodian in awe in the 51st minute levelling the score to 1-1.

The game continued in the same pace but neither had the upper hand till the final whistle.

In the penalty shoot-out that followed Moises, Akram Yadwad, Ashwell Peixoto, Rivaldo Cardozo and Mahesh Gaonkar were on target for the winners and Wilson Fernandes, Viraj Velip, Shanker Gaunkar and Frazer Fernandes scored for Cuncolim Union.
