PANJIM: Clube de Salgaocar will kick off their campaign against Geno FC in the Goa Professional League on September 21, at the Duler Stadium, Mapusa, on Friday.

Having recently showcased a commendable performance in the qualifiers for the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Trophy, Clube de Salgaocar is entering the league season with confidence and momentum. The squad, which features a remarkable roster largely composed of U-21 players, brings a fresh and energetic spirit to the league.

This youthful team is complemented by a handful of experienced players, whose leadership will be crucial in guiding the younger talent through the challenges ahead.

The team’s commitment to developing young athletes reflects its vision of fostering a new generation of footballers. The coaching staff is dedicated to harnessing the potential of these players, focusing on skill development and teamwork as they aim to establish a strong presence in the league.

Clube de Salgaocar’s first five matches are scheduled to take place at the Duler Stadium and the team is eager to rally local support as they embark on this new chapter in their history, stated a press release.

Meanwhile, Goa Football Association President Caitano Fernandes on Friday announced that the 2024-25 Goa Professional League will have an expanded line-up of 14 teams. The league welcomes the new entrants Clube de Salgaocar (with a direct entry) and Goa Police (by virtue of their promotion from the GFA First Division League).

“We’re pleased to see the growth of our league, now featuring 14 competitive teams,” Fernandes stated.

“Clube de Salgaocar’s recent performance in the Bhausaheb Bandodkar Trophy qualifiers has been noteworthy, and we look forward to seeing how they fare in the league,” he added.

Fernandes emphasised the importance of fan support in creating an engaging atmosphere for the players and encouraged football enthusiasts to attend the matches throughout the season.
