VASCO: Cortalim Gymkhana made the most of the opportunities that came their way scoring a 2-0 win over Patrong Sports Club in the Mormugao Zone GFA Division III League match played at Tilak Maidan, Vasco, on Sunday.
Poor finishing proved to be the downfall of the Patrong SC boys who dominated the proceedings with Cortalim Gymkhana lads relying on the counter-attacks. Cortalim Gymkhana scored in the closing stages of the first half through Amit Naik (41st minute) and Vignesh Haldankar (43rd minute).
Leading 2-0 at the lemon break, the Cortalim Gymkhana lads weathered the storm with aplomb to emerge triumphant.
Referee John Fernandes, who ably supervised the match, had no option but to give the marching orders towards the fag end of the match to Vignesh Mukund of Cortalim Gymkhana and Projot Pratap Thakur of Patrong SC for restoring to fisticuffs to settle the issue.
In another match, Futebol Club YFC and Shiroda Youth Club played 2-2 draw and shared the points at Don Bosco Oratory ground, Fatorda.
John Fernandes netted a brace for Futebol Club YFA, while Elias Colaco and Kevin Dias scored a goal each for Shiroda Youth Club.
The match between St Anthony SC, Colva, and United Club of Benaulim played at Dando ground, Benaulim, ended in a goalless draw.
