MARGAO: Crozan Hockey Bastora claimed victory in the inaugural All-Goa Hockey 5-a-Side Tournament, organised by Verna Sports Club, with a thrilling 4-3 win over Bastora United in the final, at Don Bosco Turf, Fatorda. Sahil (2), Suyesh (1), and Issub (1) scored for Crozan, while Swapnil netted a hat-trick for Bastora United.
The prizes were presented by Abhay Bhamaikar, President of Goan Hockey and guest of Honour Farrel Furtado, secretary of Goan Hockey in the presence of women's hockey player Manjita Mathkar, hockey coach Eliter Fernandes and Morrisson Rodrigues, block president of the Congress Party for Nuvem constituency.
Nine teams competed in the one-day league-cum-knockout tournament. The champions, Crozan Hockey Bastora, were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000 and a trophy, while the runners-up, Bastora United, received Rs 7,000 and a trophy.
The tournament was inaugurated by Rev Fr Leo Pereira, Director of Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda.
Individual awards went to Isu Sahil (best striker, Crozan Society), Brandon Noronha (best player, Bastora United) and Praveen Naik (best goalkeeper, Crozan Society).
