RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana were crowned champions in the Simon Barreto Memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Maina Sports Club at the DYSA ground, Curtorim.
In the final, Curtorim Gymkhana outplayed Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda 2-0.
Ryan Fernandes and Nezly Hilario scored one goal each in both the sessions of play.
Leader of Opposition and Cuncolim MLA Yuri Alemao was the chief guest and gave away prizes in the presence of Curtorim MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco,
Curtorim Zilla Panchayat member Michelle Rebelo, Dronacharya Awardee Armando Colaco, former sarpanch Rui Menezes, Fr Manuel Dias, Fr Domnic Savio Vaz, Roque Carneiro, Milagres Rodrigues, Alfred Baretto, Goa Football Association Executive Members Anthony Pango and Andrew Ferrao, Angelis Rebello, President Francisco Rebelo, Moreno Rebelo, Fiel Braganza, club members and other
dignitaries.
On the occasion, Yuri felicitated renowned coach Armando Colaco on being bestowed prestigious Dronacharya Award in Lifetime Category and appealed to footballers to make Goa proud.
Speaking on the occasion, the Cuncolim said that Goa has a long history of football and love toward ‘The Beautiful Game’ is in the blood of Goemkars.
“Armando Colaco has brought laurels to Goa through his hard work, passion and dedication in this field. He has trained many budding talents and I hope they achieve their goals in future and make us proud,” Alemao added.
Praising Armando, he said that he has seen his passion towards football for the last many years and was happy to see that he got the prestigious recognition.
“Armando has become an inspiration to many footballers. I urge you to make Goa proud in this field,” Yuri further urged the footballers.
