RAIA: Curtorim Gymkhana defeated Parish Youth, Nuvem, 4-2 via the tie-breaker in the finals of Betalbatim Villagers Cup inter-village football tournament at Betalbatim ground, on Sunday. There was no score at full time.
In a well-contested finals, watched by a large Sunday crowd, the teams tied their level best to break the deadlock in the regular period but were unsuccessful. Curtorim Gymkhana held a slight edge against the tough Nuvem boys who fought hard but could not score.
In the tie-breaker, Curtorim Gymkhana scored through Jovel Martins, Aliston Fernandes, James Fernandes and Mario Mascarenhas. Inacio Colaco and Alloysius Fernandes scored for Nuvem.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man-of-the match - Nixon Castanha of Curtorim Gymkhana. First scorer Joval Martins of Curtorim Gymkhana. Best goalkeeper - Joy Hilario of Curtorim Gymkhana. Best defender - Mario Mascarenhas of Curtorim Gymkhana. Best midfielder - Inacio Colaco of Parish Youth of Nuvem. Best disciplined team - Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda.
MLA Aleixo Sequeira was the chief guest and gave away the prizes in the presence of Fr. Adriao Furtado, Parish Priest of Betalbatim and other dignitaries and club officials.
