MAPUSA/RAIA: Dunes SC had an easy outing as they trounced Sai Avtar SC, Anjuna, 5-1 to march into the next round of Candolim Panchayat Cup organised by Candolim SC at Dr Gustavo Monterio ground, Candolim, on Thursday.
Before the start of the match one minute of silence was observed for the departed soul of Justino Rosario, former Candolim goalkeeper.
The highlight of the match was a brilliant hat-trick from the boots of Cyprian Rodrigues.
It was Sanmesh Paul who opened the floodgates for Dunes SC as he directed his header into the goal in the 29th minute of play off a cross from Arun Naik, 1-0.
Before going into the breather, Cyprian Rodrigues doubled his team’s lead from his individual brilliancy, 2-0.
On crossing over, Anthony Lobo guided the ball into the goal off a cross from Sanmesh Paul to make it 3-0. In the last quarter of the match, Cyprian Rodrigues netted a brace to complete his hat-trick. Samuel D’Souza scored the consolation goal for Sia Avtar, 5-1.

Augustias SC will take on Nerul Sports Club in the inaugural match of the Calangute Panchayat Cup in loving memory of Fr Conceicao D’Silva organised by St Savio’s SC, Calangute, on Friday, at Poriat ground, Calangute, at 4.30 pm.
Other participating teams are Xetrapal SC, Dunes SC, PVC Parra, Peddem Bomm, St. Sebasatian SC, St. Savio’s SC, Saligao United, Sinquerim SC, Goa Velha SC, Saligao Sporting, Raia Sporting Club, Assonora SC, St. Anthony’s SC Marna-Siolim and Candolim SC.

Cavelossim in quarters
Hosts Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim hammered Goa Velha 3-0 to enter into the quarter-finals of Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup 2025 organised by Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim at Fr Druston and Wellington ground, Cavelossim, on Thursday.
SCC Cavelossim drew the first blood when an accurate cross by Alex Rodrigues was headed in by Sanford Fernandes to put SCC Cavelossim 1-0 ahead in the very 5th minute.
Shanon Furtado increased the lead when he took a long range shot almost from the centre line into the goal by beating Rajat Gauns under the Goa Velha crossbar.
Shanon Furtado completed his brace when he tapped in a goalmouth cross from Kayne Furtado to take SCC Cavelossim into the last eight.
