RAIA: In a tightly contested clash, Don Bosco Oratory, Fatorda, scored a solitary goal victory over SCC Loutolim to march ahead in the Anil Kamat Memorial football tournament organised by Enfermos Sports Club at the Chinchinim Church ground, on Friday.
From the outset, both teams showed attacking intent. In the 10th minute, Hanslum Furtado of Don Bosco Oratory tried to test the opposition early, but his shot went wide. Samson Mascarnehas of SCC Loutolim responded five minutes later with a solid attempt, but Don Bosco Oratory’s goalkeeper Karl Soares produced a brilliant save to keep his side level.
The chances kept coming. Cliff Barreto launched a fierce strike for Don Bosco Oratory, only to be denied by SCC Loutolim’s alert custodian Hilario Fernandes. Cayvem Araujo came close in the 24th minute with a 20-yard attempt, but missed narrowly. SCC Loutolim’s Samson Mascarnehas had another opportunity before the break, but once again Soares stood firm. Despite the attacking display the first half ended 0-0.
The second half saw Don Bosco Oratory press harder. In the 48th minute, Clencio Pinto forced another fine save from Hilario. Four minutes later, Clencio missed another clear opportunity to give his side the lead. Their persistence finally paid off in the 59th minute when Clive Miranda found the back of the net, breaking the deadlock with a calm finish.
Though, SCC Loutolim pushed for an equaliser in the dying minutes, Don Bosco Oratory’s defence stood strong.
