MAPUSA: Clube de Salgaocar registered a well-deserved 2-0 win over Sesa FA in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
Clube de Salgaocar scored both the goals in the first session through Denil Rebello (1st minute) and Salvador Gama (38th minute).
Sesa FA playing their first GPL match received a jolt in the very first minute.
Sesa FA’s stopper back Saurabh Patil brought down Boinao Singh prompting Referee Sunil Nanodkar to point to the dreaded spot.
Clube de Salgaocar’s skipper Denil stepped forward and scored 1-0.
Match was then mostly restricted to the midfield which came only in the 38th minute with Clube de Salgaocar colts scoring in their second goal.
A well-taken corner by Denil was nodded by U-21 Salvador Gama into the goal with the rival defenders and goalkeeper Roanal Gaunkar beaten, 2-0.
Clube de Salgaocar almost netted their third goal two minutes later where Royal Oliveira’s floater inside the 18-yard box hit Sesa FA’s defender and rebounded off the horizontal bar.
On crossing ends, Sesa FA’s coach Charles Dias brought in three players from the substitution bench, strikers Clencio Pinto, Omkar Shetgaonkar and goalkeeper Sapam Singh.
The substitution brought teeth in the attack where Clencio’s shot went just past the goal post, while Sachidanand Satelkar and Thokchom Singh goal-bound strikes were saved by Clube de Salgaocar’s custodian Sanij Bugde.
Once again play was restricted to the midfield with both teams building attacks in search of the goals, but their defence failed to bulge under pressure.
In the 86th minute, Salvador Gama latched a fierce grounder from outside the penalty box which was brilliantly collected by Sesa FA’s custodian Sapam Singh.
