PANJIM: Goa’s young badminton players put up a spirited performance on the final day of qualification matches at the Yonex-Sunrise All India Sub Junior (U-15 & U-17) Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025, currently underway at the Multipurpose Stadium, Peddem.
Leading the local charge was Dimple Revonker, who, in partnership with Tanishka Ganji (TS), secured a place in the main draw of the U-15 girls doubles. The pair registered a well-fought win over Maharashtra’s Aaradhya Amol Dhere and Sai Hemant Joshi, prevailing 16-14, 15-12 in Round 3.
Among other Goan hopefuls, Vansh Khedkar delivered a gutsy performance in the boys U-17 singles round 5, narrowly losing to Telangana’s Tanish Reddy Budidha in one of the most competitive matches of the day, 15-13, 14-16, 15-10.
In boys U-17 doubles, Vansh teamed up with Shaurya Naik, and though they put up a strong fight, they eventually succumbed 19-17, 15-5 to the Tamil Nadu duo of Dharshan Kumar SV and Danish Sulthan.
In the girls U-15 doubles, the Goan pair of Anaya Kamat and Aarya Metry bowed out after a 15-7, 15-10 loss to third seeds Niharika A and Vidharshana T from Tamil Nadu.
In girls U-15 singles, second seed Mehvish Kaur (PNB) defeated Avika Verma (MP) 15-7, 15-9, while fifth seed Nimeesha Ojha (ORI) staged a comeback to beat Shreya Maria Mathew (KER) 3-15, 15-12, 15-9. Sixth seed Aarshia (GUJ) and ninth seed Bhavna Chahal (HAR) also secured wins in their respective matches.
