PANJIM: Dnyanprassarak Mandal’s College and Research Centre, Assagao, and Don Bosco College, Panjim, won the Goa University’s 37th Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship Men and Women 2024-2025 respectively organised by Goa University at the SAG’s Athletics Stadium, Bambolim, recently.

GVM’s Gopal Govind Poy Raiturcar College of Commerce and Economics, Farmagudi-Ponda, were the men’s runners-up, while second runners-up were Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao.

Government College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Khandola, were the women’s runners-up, while second runners-up were Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim.

Around 1,000 athletes from 47 colleges affiliated to Goa University participated in the three-day championship.

Like last year, this year also the championship saw the use of Photo finish technology for all track events.

Total five records were broken in this athletic meet: 4x400 Relay Women by Don Bosco College, Panjim, with performance of 53.001sec. 100 M Hurdle Women by Nathan Shimron of Don Bosco College, Panjim, wit performance of 15.695sec. 100 M Run Men by Moses Mascarenhas of Parvatibai Chowgule College, Margao, with performance of 10.692. 800 M Run Women by D’Souza Swizel of St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, with performance of 2.30sec. Hammer Throw Men by Bhosle Rudra of DM’s College, Assagao, with performance of 36.55metres.

Best Athlete Male and Female of the championship was awarded Moses Mascarenhas of Parvatibai Chowgule College of Arts and Science, Margao, and Shimron Nathan of Don Bosco College, Panjim, respectively.

Prof Sunder N Dhuri, Registrar, Goa University, was the chief guest for the opening ceremony and inaugurated the championship.

The chief guest for the prize distribution ceremony, Professor Vikas Pissurlekar, principal of PES’s RNS College of Arts and Science, Ponda, and guest of honour international badminton player Anura Prabhu Dessai, College Director of Physical Education and Sports of Don Bosco College, Panjim, Ryan Pereira graced the occasion and along with Balachandra Jadar, assistant director of physical education and sports, Goa University, presented trophies and medals to the winners.
