PANJIM: Don Bosco College, Panjim, and St Xavier’s College, Mapusa, won the Women and Men Basketball Championship 2025-26 respectively organised by Goa University at the Manohar Parrikar Indore Stadium, Navelim, recently.
In the well-contested men’s final, St Xavier’s College outplayed Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, 62-57.
In the women’s final, Don Bosco College outsmarted St Xavier’s College 47-22.
Earlier in the women semi-finals, Don Bosco College defeated Dhempe College of Arts and Science, Miramar, 24-06, and St Xavier’s College defeated Rosary College of Commerce and Arts, Navelim, 27-07.
In the men semi-finals, Don Bosco College of Engineering, Fatorda, defeated Goa College of Engineering, Farmagudi, 40-34 and St Xavier’s College outplayed Dempo Charities Trust’s Srinivassa Sinai Dempo College of Commerce and Economics. Cujira, Bambolim, 45-34.
Best player men was awarded to Tanish Lotlicar of Don Bosco College of Engineering, while the best player women was bagged by Sarah Hussain of Don Bosco College, Panjim.
In the presentation ceremony, chief guest Maria Helen Pinto, basketball national player and coach and guest of honor Sonali Raut and Fr Rahlin D’Souza, rector-Don Bosco Engineering, Fatorda, along with Dr Manoj Hede, college director of Physical Education and Sports, Kare College of Law, Margao, and Balachandra B Jadar, assistant director of Physical Education and Sports, Goa University, presented the medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up.
Don Bosco College women’s team: Vida Pacheco, Trisha Lopes, Tanisha Ferrao, Marion Armanda Gracias, Rhea Pires, Blessica Rodrigues, Sarah Hussain, Flani Costa, Rosann Sophie D’Silva, Mariyam Shaikh, Megan Pereira and Issaca Anna Pereira.
St Xavier's College women’s team: Assuciana Fernandes, Sakshi Mirgal, Sejal Kudnekar, Gautami Talekar, Tabitha Angel Mascarenhas, Diya Arvind Waghela, Tavia Adley De Souza, Gauri Shetgaonkar, Nilofer Vaz, Flamica Carol Agnes Almeida, Auxcilia Berna Cardozo, Shanaya Crystal D’Costa.
St Xavier’s College men’s team: KwyreenD’souza, Adrian Fernandes, Arthur Desouza, Lamuel Durwin Fernandes, Jeremiah Fernandes, Mohan Akidi, Aditya Ashok Naik, Adi Leandro Sharma, Taresh Anthony Mendes, Daniel Pinto Abreo, Denzyl Fernandes and Mackvill Jesus Mani.
