NAVELIM: Don Bosco Sports Academy, Fatorda, girls and Loyola Ignitors, Margao, boys emerged champions at the Goa State Sub Junior Basketball Championships 2025, held at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, here, recently.
In the girls’ final, Don Bosco Sports Academy proved too strong for Don Bosco Oratory, Panjim, clinching a 33-20 victory in a commanding performance from start to finish.
Natalie Fernandes was unstoppable under the basket, netting 25 points and deservingly earning the MVP award of the final, while Shukla top scored for Don Bosco Oratory with 12 points.
In the boys’ final, Loyola Ignitors displayed complete dominance over Don Bosco Oratory, registering a 55-17 triumph. Nash was the star performer, dropping 30 points to seal the win, while Bronwyn fought valiantly for Don Bosco Oratory with 12 points.
The championships organised by Don Bosco Sports Academy in association with the Goa Basketball Association and the Sports Authority of Goa served as the official selection trials for Goa’s teams that will represent the State at the 50th Sub Junior National Basketball Championship in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from October 4-10.
The finals were graced by dignitaries from the basketball fraternity, including Sonali Raut Desai, Luis Gomes, Fr Willy, Fr Leo, former Goa Basket Association President Fr Ralin D’Souza, Fr Jimmy from Loyola High School and Organising Secretary Royston Costa, who also delivered the vote of thanks.
