Dunes SC Crushes Chandor Club 5-1, Advances to Calangute Association Cup Semis

CALANGUTE: Dunes Sports Club emerged victorious with a commanding 5-1 win over Chandor Club to march into the semi-finals of Calangute Association Cup inter-village football tournament played at Poriat ground, here, on Thursday.

Before the kick off, the players and spectators observed a solemn one-minute silence in memory of Francis Diago Cardozo, member of the Calangute Association.

Dunes SC showcased a dominant performance throughout the match. A Naik opened the scoring with quick successive goals in the 28th and 38th minute. Chandor Club responded almost immediately with a lone goal by Brivon Dias in the 29th minute, but later the momentum shifted entirely in favour of Dunes SC. Sanmesh Raul (43’), Anthony Lobo (49’), and Arjun Shetgaonkar (50’) sealed the game with well-executed goals.

A Naik of Dunes Sports Club was named the man-of-the-match for his stellar performance and was presented the award by Sebastian Noronha.

Earlier, rising to the occasion, Shaviz Patha led St Sebastian SC to a commanding 3-1 victory by netting an impressive hat-trick with goals coming in the 9th, 13th and 56th minute against St Anthony SC, Marna-Siolim to book the quarter-finals berth.

St Anthony SC fought back valiantly with Sahil Pomburpekar scoring in the 25th minute, but it wasn’t enough to close the gap against the in-form Mapusa side. Shaviz Patha was awarded the man-of-the-match.
