MAPUSA: Dunes Sports Club, Mandrem, sailed into the semi-finals of Assonora United Super Soccer Cup after overcoming a stiff challenge from St Savio Sports Club, Calangute, 6-5 via sudden death at Assonora ground, on Friday.
The teams were locked in a 1-1 draw at the end of regular time.
Both the teams started almost on equal footing where finally in the 10th minute of the second half Dunes SC scored through Arun Naik,1-0.
In the very next minute, Pedro Gonsalves of St Savio SC was brought down in the penalty box by Seetus and the referee pointed to the dreaded spot without any hesitation. Pedro converted to level the score, 1-1.
In the tie-breaker, Leslie, Arun, Anant, Sanford and Vivek converted for Dunes SC, while only Pedro, Runal, Richard and Mervin managed to score for St Savio SC.
