PANJIM: Goa’s Chess prodigy IM Ethan Vaz has once again clinched a gold medal, this time in the U-16 Sub-Junior Open category of Commonwealth Chess Championships 2024.

Ethan says, “I was supposed to play in the U-14 Open category, but decided to play in the U-16 Open category to challenge myself at a higher level. I’m glad I was able to win gold.”

The Commonwealth Chess Championships 2024 were organised by The Chess Federation of Sri Lanka on behalf of The Commonwealth Chess Association and FIDE, in Sri Lanka.

It may be recalled that Ethan had won gold at Commonwealth Chess Championships in the year 2022, while he was 11 and playing in the U-12 category.

Ethan, who just turned 13 on September 3, was eligible to play in the U-14 category but had chosen to challenge himself by playing in a higher category this time. His boldness paid off handsomely with a well-deserved Gold Medal in the prestigious Sub-Junior Open category.
