MAPUSA/RAIA: FC Goa had an easy outing as they trounced Panjim Footballers by 7-0 margin in the Goa Professional League (GPL) match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Monday.
For FC Goa, Sitroy Carvalho netted a brace, with Malsawmtluanga, Yanglem Santomba Singh, Saish Gauncar, Likson Rebelo and Mallikjan Kalegar adding their names to the scorer’s list. Young Gaurs were indeed a better side as they kept their opponents pinned mostly inside their own territory.
FC Goa scored one of the fastest goal in the ongoing GPL where in the 38th second a long floater by medio Davis Fernandes was controlled and aimed at the goal by Shaikh Ismail only to find Panjim Footballers custodian Cydon D’Souza block the strike for a corner.
From the resultant corner by Malsawmtluanga, defender Sitroy Carvalho nodded the ball into the back of the nylons, 1-0.
After 20 minutes of midfield tussle, Young Gaurs’ Davis moved upfront from the left wing and sent the ball across the goal area only to find Panjim Footballers’ skipper Prasil Kankonkar clear the ball for a corner.
In the 29th minute, Young Gaurs’ Yanglem Santomba Singh this time after covering some ground on the left wing sent a deadly cross inside the 6-yard box to find Malsawmtluanga send the ball into the goal, 2-0.
Panjim Footballers who had reinforced their squad by signing three outstation players from Kerala, yet found it difficult to stop the compact Young Gaurs side.
Their best chance to reduce the margin came in the 35th minute of play, but a stiff by Benwin PB from inside the 18-yard box was saved by Young Gaurs goalkeeper Bob Jackson Raj. Before going into the dressing room a rasping shot by Akash Oraow was blocked by Panjim Footballers’ custodian.
On crossing ends, after a number of missed chances, Young Gaurs time and again scored five goals through Sitroy, Yanglem, Saish, Likson and Mallikjan.
In another match, Guardian Angel SC eased past Churchill Brothers 3-0, at Nagoa panchayat ground, on Monday.
The match got off to a perfect start for Guardian Angel SC when Peter Carvalho rose to head home a precise free-kick from Moises D’Sa in the 35th minute, following a foul on Preston Castano just outside the box.
In the second half, Ronald Singh almost doubled the lead early, but his effort was cleared off the line by Sarif Khan. Singh wasn’t to be denied, though, as he struck a stunning free-kick in the 66th minute, curling it into the top corner.
Just minutes later, Singh completed his brace with a clinical finish, rounding the goalkeeper after a brilliant through ball from Moises to seal a comfortable 3-0 win.
