Football–A beautiful life to begin with ‘Libre Indirecto’

PANJIM: Serendipity Arts Festival, India’s first multidisciplinary arts event, will begin the Football-A beautiful life, a six-day film programme with Libre Indirecto (Indirect free-kick) on November 22, at Children’s Park, Goa.

Curated by Jan Tilman Schwab the programme will showcase a range of exceptional features films and documentaries from around the world that depict human and social stories through football from November 22 to 27.

The first day will have Libre Indirecto Indirect (Free-kick) by Juanjo Gimenzes followed by Maxima Pena (Maximum Penalty) by Juanjo Gimenez, Spanish and Saudanti from Nigeria by Zakariya Edayur, Malayalam.

This is an official collateral event of the 49th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) that will celebrate football this winter, a game so deeply embedded in the history and culture of Goa, resonating with Goans better than any other sport.  Proving football truly is the world’s game; the festival will feature films in more than six different languages, representing a diverse range of football stories from Spain, Lebanon, Brazil, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Argentina and India.

Juanjo's Rodilla will set the screen followed by Lebanon wins the World Cup by Tony Elkhoury and Anthony Lappe on the second day.

On November 24, Portuguese film Boca de Fogo by Luciano Perez will be screened followed by Lebanon wins the World Cup. On November 25,Jordi Marcos' L'ultim Partit (The last match), a 70 minutes film will be screened.

An English film titled Eighteam by Juan Rodriguez and Inside aVolcano --The rise of icelandic football by Saevar Goumundsson will be screened. Filippo Macelloni and Lorenzo Garzella's Mundial Dimenticato (The last World Cup) will be screened along with Libre Indrecto and Maxima Pena

Jan Tilman Schwab, (film historian, publicist and journalist, editor, lecturer and educator) stated, “Football – A Beautiful Life’ is a gift from the Serendipity Arts Festival to the people of Panjim. I am honoured to be the lucky person invited to curate this unique and free public programme. Football and Film have a lot in common: both are team efforts, both depend basically on motion, both are non-verbal languages that can be understood everywhere in the world.  The films chosen represent almost all continents, and include short and feature films, documentaries, fiction, and comedies that each tells stories of triumph and setbacks. The audience will get opportunities to laugh and weep.”
