RAIA: Dominating the entire match, Fr Agnelo YSC, Paroda, defeated St Anthony SC, Assolda, 4-1, to emerge champions in the 52nd Custodio memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Raia Sporting Club at the Raia panchayat ground, on Tuesday.
Fr Agnelo YSC were richer by Rs 1 lakh and trophy, while St Anthony’s SC had to be content with a purse of Rs 70,000 plus trophy.
With just two dangerous moves created by Samuel Piexoto and Richard Fernandes of St Anthony SC, at the start of the match, the rest of play was fully dominated by Fr Agnelo YSC.
Melson Fernandes opened the flood gates for Fr Agnelo YSC in the 26th minute of the match beating St Anthony SC goalkeeper Oswin Rodrigues under the crossbar.
At the start of the second session, Selton Fernandes doubled the lead for Fr Agnelo YSC. Substitute Ashwan Fernades scored the third goal, while Sowell Fernandes made the issue more safer for Fr Agnelo YSC scoring the fourth goal. Drayan Fernandes reduced the margin for St Anthony SC at the fag-end of the match.
Chief guest Fatorda MLA Vijay Sardesai handed over the prizes in the presence of former South Goa Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha, Curtorim MLA and GIDC Chairman Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco, Goa Football Association President Caitano Jose Fernandes, Zilla Parishad Member Dominic Gauncar, Raia Sarpanch Jacinta Dias, social worker Roque Mascarenhas, Our Lady of Snows Church Parish Priest Fr Saude Pereira, St Joaquim Chapel, Borda, priest Fr Dylan D’Costa, GFA Vice-President Anthony Pango, Ernest Moniz, Jose Pereira (Martins Corner), Anthony Rodrigues (Snows Bakery), Freddy Palmeira (civil contractor) and Raia Village Panchayat panchas.
