RAIA: Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, marched into the final defeating hosts Chandor Club 2-1 in the 49th Chandor Seamen football tournament played at Chandor ground, on Saturday.
In an interesting encounter, youthful Fr Agnelo YSC played their hearts out from the word go and came close to opening an account in the very 2nd minute. They brought immense pressure on the rivals keeping the ball into their territory for the better part of first 15 minutes. In the 10th minute, Salvin Fernandes’ powered shot went into Chandor Club net hoodwinking their custodian.
Chandor Club lads also fought back and Sunny Fernandes capitalised from the cross and shot directly into the Fr Agnelo YSC net in the 14th minute bringing parity.
Both teams were fired into giving their best to gain upper hand when Fr Agnelo YSC’s Velroy Carvalho headed the ball from a well-taken free-kick into the Chandor Club goal keeping custodian awe-striken.
Fr Agnelo YSC led 2-0 at lemon break. Changing sides, both teams kept up the tempo and Chandor Club looked determined to seek parity but their two good attempts were foiled by Fr Agnelo YSC custodian with his spectacular saves.
