MAPUSA: Unbeaten Garhwal United FC, Delhi, registered a well-deserved 3-0 win over Roots Football Club, Karnataka, in their last league match to emerge champions in the Indian Women League 2 played at Duler Stadium under floodlights, here, recently.
For the winners, Garhwal United skipper Lhingdeikin netted a brace with Shruthi Kumari scoring the third goal.
Roots FC eves last line of defence along with custodian Dhanushree managed to hold to their citadel till the 42nd minute when finally Garhwal United skipper Lhingdeikin scored from the penalty spot after Shruthi Kumari was brought down by Sunalinda Lawren,1-0.
In the stoppage time, Garhwal United doubled their lead with Lhingdeikin scoring from her individual brilliancy, 2-0.
Earlier in the match, Roots FC goalkeeper Dhanushree brought three brilliant saves to deny Lhingdeikin and Shruthi Kumari twice from scoring.
On crossing over, Garhwal United striker Shruthi Kumari after missing number of scoring chances finally scored in the 56th minute.
Chief guest All India Football Federation Women’s (AIFF) Committee Chairperson Valanka Alemao, AIFF Co-opted Member Climax Lawrence and Walter Pereira presented the trophies and medals to the winning and runners-up teams and officials.
Indian Arrows Women Juniors have also qualified for the coming IWL 1 League 2025-26.
In the earlier match, Sesa Football Academy drub Krida Prabodhini Pune by 4-0 margin to secure the third place. After three defeats, finally, Sesa FA ended their campaign in the IWL 2 with a victory.
Pushpa Parab netted a brace with Sushmita Jadav and Flani Costa adding their names to the scorer’s list. Haston Lourenco co-ordinated the final.
