PANJIM: With elections to the Goa Cricket Association (GCA) scheduled for Tuesday, September 16, the cricketing body finds itself in the spotlight both for its internal elections battle and a recent controversy regarding representation at the BCCI.
At a press conference held recently, the Parivartan Panel led by Rohan Gauns Dessai formally introduced candidates led by Mahesh Candolkar for the post of president. Alongside him are Rajesh Patnekar, former two-time MLA from Bicholim and other candidates including Daya Pagi (secretary post), Shushant Naik (joint secretary), Rupesh Naik (treasurer) and Meghnath Shirodkar for member. The panel has already approached 25-30 GCA affiliated clubs across the State seeking support.
They are focused on building a world class international cricket stadium within the next three years enabling Goa to host the BCCI and international matches.
The panel was full of experience with people drawn from the clubs affiliated to GCA and they would work to make the vision a reality.
They also promised to provide financial support to the GCA affiliated clubs at the start of every season to help create and improve infrastructure at the taluka level.
These were some of the main promises made in the manifesto.
