MAPUSA: Geno FC had an easy outing as they trounced Churchill Brothers FC by 4-0 margin in the Goa Professional League match played at Duler Stadium, here, on Friday.
After Friday’s match Geno FC have seven points, while Churchill Brothers are yet to open their account after playing their third league game.
For the winners, Niraj Parekh (28th minute), Franky Oliveiro (59th minute), Suraj Gurung (73rd minute) and Sheldon Pereira (79th minute) scored.
Though both teams played at a fast pace but came close in breaking the deadlock after quarter of the match. Geno FC’s Hijam Singh received a perfect floater by medio Velito Cruz, but Hijam shot wide.
At the other end, a fierce strike by Churchill Brothers’ Sagar Panwar was brilliantly blocked for a corner at the first post by Geno FC’s goalkeeper Savio Pereira at the expense of a corner.
In the 28th minute, Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Nitesh Mehra left his charge and brought down Geno FC’s U-21 Prajat Naik outside the penalty box prompting Referee Sachin Padloskar to caution the custodian and award a direct free-kick which was excellently curled by defender Niraj Parekh into the top corner ofthe goal 1-0.
Three minutes later, Geno FC almost doubled their lead but a rasping 25-yard strike by Franky Oliveiro was brilliantly paired for a corner by Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Nitesh Pawar.
On crossing over, Geno FC colts pinned their opponents mostly inside their own territory and scored at regular intervals.
In the very second minute, on crossing ends, a teasing cross by substitute Sheldon Pereira saw Franky Oliveiro a second late to connect home.
In the 55th minute, Churchill Brothers substitute Jolly Singh was sent off by Referee Sachin Padloskar for bringing down Geno FC’s Flan Gomes just outside the penalty box. From the resultant free-kick Hijam Singh strike hit the Churchill Brothers defensive wall and went out.
However, four minutes later, Franky Oliveiro scored this time from top of the penalty box where his shot brushed rival goalkeeper gloves and entered the goal 2-0.
Geno FC’s hunger for goals did not end with substitute Suraj Gurung nodded the ball into the goal off Krishna Gawas corner, 3-0.
In the 79th minute, Geno FC’s Sheldon Pereira rounded off the onrushing Churchill Brothers goalkeeper and slammed the ball into the net to complete the rout, 4-0.
