MAPUSA: Salgaocar Football Club celebrated a proud milestone by honouring the victorious U-13 team, which was recently crowned champions of the Goa Football Association U-13 League for the 2024-25 season, in a felicitation ceremony held at its head office, Vasco, on Tuesday.
The atmosphere was jubilant and filled with pride as players, coaches, club officials and parents gathered to commemorate the young team's outstanding achievement. The event underscored Salgaocar FC's enduring commitment to nurturing grassroots football and building a sustainable pathway for young footballers in the State and beyond.
The felicitation ceremony was graced by V M Salgaocar Group Chairman and Managing Director Shivanand Salgaocar and Swati Salgaocar, who presented mementos to all the players and staff in recognition of their hard work and success. Also in attendance were Salgaocar FC CEO Sanjiv Nagvekar and Secretary Amith Gaude.
While addressing the gathering, Shivanand extended his heartfelt congratulations to the young champions and lauded the efforts of the coaching staff, support team and parents, who played a crucial role in the development and performance of the players.
“This triumph is not just a title. It is a testament to the discipline, perseverance, and spirit of unity exhibited by each member of the team. We are immensely proud of what these young boys have achieved. Their journey is a shining example of what commitment and teamwork can accomplish,” said Salgaocar in his congratulatory speech.
He further highlighted the importance of investing in grassroots football and reiterated the club’s philosophy of building talent from the ground up. Salgaocar FC, with its rich legacy in Indian football, continues to focus on youth development as a cornerstone of its long-term vision.
Swati emphasised on the role of community, mentorship and opportunities in shaping young athletes.
“Each child here represents the future of Goan and Indian football. At Salgaocar FC, we strive to provide not just training but a holistic environment where young players can grow in confidence, character and capability.”
The event also served as a platform to announce another significant milestone for the club. Following their league victory, Salgaocar FC's U-13 team has qualified for the play-off round of the Sub-Junior Youth League, organised by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). The play-off round will be held in Mahabalipuram, Chennai, starting from May 7, where the team will compete against the best youth sides from across the country.
