The Goa Cricket Association (GCA) has officially announced that its next round of elections will be held on August 24, 2025. These elections will determine the new leadership team tasked with overseeing cricket operations and driving development efforts across the state.
The election comes at a critical juncture for the GCA, which is under growing scrutiny over delays in infrastructure projects. Chief Minister Pramod Sawant recently raised concerns about the lack of progress on the proposed cricket ground in Pernem. Although the GCA was allotted 1.89 lakh square meters of land for the project, it has yet to obtain necessary approvals or initiate construction. The state government has issued a warning that if development work does not begin by 2027, the land lease may be cancelled. Compounding the issue, the association has only partially paid the fees owed to the government, raising questions over its accountability and financial management.
Against this backdrop, the upcoming elections carry heightened importance. The incoming office bearers will be expected to address these administrative and developmental challenges with urgency. Their priorities will likely include fast-tracking infrastructure projects, securing regulatory clearances, improving cricket facilities, and ensuring transparent governance to boost the sport’s growth in Goa.
The GCA functions under the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which mandates regular elections for all state cricket bodies to promote democratic functioning and accountability. With cricket’s popularity surging, the results of the GCA elections will be closely watched, not just for leadership change but also for the direction the sport will take in the state in the coming years.
