MARGAO: A young Goan, Anam Raza, a Grade 6 student at Podar International School, Bainguinim, Old Goa, has secured second place at the prestigious National Level Coding and Programming Competition that was held in Bengaluru.
The competition, organised by Discovery Education in collaboration with Edutech, saw participation from over 2,500 students across India and Nepal. It challenged participants to develop an innovative simulator application to educate people about the life cycle of a tree and the impact of human activities on the environment. Anam’s exceptional project, marked by creativity, technical accuracy, and a strong environmental message, earned her a well-deserved Silver Medal. Anam was guided by her parents and mentor Bhikaji Gawade while preparing for the contest.
This isn’t Anam’s first achievement. Last year, she secured first place in the National Science Olympiad (NSO) and International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO). She has also authored a storybook titled ‘A Trip to Penguin Land’, which is available online and has been included in her school’s library. In June 2024, she presented her science project at the Innovation Fair organised by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, and secured the third position.
According to her mentors, Anam’s success is a testament to her dedication, hard work, and the supportive environment provided by her school and family. They added that her achievement inspires young Goans to pursue their passions in STEM fields and contribute to the State’s growing reputation as a hub for innovation and excellence.
